Sayyiduna Umar RA relates that a person came to Nabi SAWW and asked for something, Nabi SAWW replied, "I have nothing with me. What can i give you? however, go and purchase something on my name and when i receive something i will pay it off".
On seeing this, Sayyiduna Umar RA said, "O Rasullullah SAWW, you have given something to this person, whereas ALLAH has not placed upon you a burden that you are unable to bear".
Nabi SAWW was not pleased at the words uttered by Umar RA. An Ansaari sitting nearby remarked, "O Rasulullah SAWW, keep on spending and have no fear of any shortage from the one on the Throne."
Upon hearing this, Nabi SAWW smiled, and the effects of the smile upon hearing the words of an Ansaari were manifest upon his noble face. He said, "this is what i have been commanded with."
According to a narration by Jaabir RA, a person approached Nabi SAWW and asked him for something, just as Nabi SAWW gave him something another person came to him with a similar request. Nabi SAWW gave him something as well. A third person approached with a similar request. (Having nothing to give at that time), Nabi SAWW promised to give him something later.
On seeing this, Sayyiduna Umar RA rose and said; "O Rasulullah! A request was made to you, which you fulfilled. Then another request was made to you, which you fulfilled. Then again a request was made to you upon which you made a promise."
"Nabi SAWW was not pleased with the words of Umar RA. Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Huzafa Sahmi RA rose and said, "O Rasulullah SAWW, continue spending, and have no fear of poverty and want from the one on the Throne."
Nabi SAWW once said to Sayyinduna Bilal RA, "O Bilal, spend and have no fear of shortage of Rabbul-Arsh." (The Lord of the Throne)
Sayyiduna Anas RA says, "Once a gift of three (cooked) birds were received by Nabi SAWW, HE SAWW gave one to the maid servant. The following day she returned with it, and on seeing this, Nabi SAWW reprimanded her, saying "Did i not prevent you from storing anything for the next day?""
